Want to Boost Your Home's Appeal? Start with the Garden

What an amazing summer we’ve been having, and if like us, you’ve been spending a lot of time in the garden, you might be wondering what you’d like to do to update it. Well, we have great news! Keeping your garden looking perfect can help increase your home's value.

A neat, tidy garden doesn’t just look good; it helps buyers instantly picture the lifestyle your home offers. A well-kept outdoor space can spark an emotional connection, often leading to quicker sales and even higher offers. The good news? You don’t need a complete garden makeover. A few simple updates can make a big difference.

Here are five easy ways to get your garden looking its best. Whether you're preparing to sell or just want to fall in love with your outdoor space again.

1. First things first: get rid of anything that doesn't belong. That means old plant pots, broken chairs, unused toys, and anything else collecting dust in the corner. Garden tools and equipment should be stored neatly in a shed or tucked into a tidy corner.

A clean, organised garden instantly feels bigger, brighter, and more welcoming.

2. Overgrown branches can make your garden feel dark and messy. Regular pruning keeps plants healthy, improves sunlight and airflow, and helps show off the shape of your outdoor space. Don’t worry if you're not a gardening pro – just trimming back obvious overgrowth can make a big difference.

3. A patchy, dry lawn can bring down the whole look of a garden. Give it a quick refresh by mowing, watering, and overseeding any bare spots. A green, tidy lawn is one of the first things buyers notice – and it signals that the home has been cared for. In fact, a well-kept lawn alone could add anywhere from £2,000 to £5,000 to your home’s value.

4. Your patio or deck is often the heart of the garden – a space for barbecues, morning coffees, or relaxing with a book. Pressure-wash away built-up dirt, moss, and grime to bring it back to life. If you’ve got wooden decking, treat it with a protective oil or stain for a fresh, clean finish.

5. A solid, tidy fence frames your garden and adds privacy – two big ticks for potential buyers. Replace any broken panels or posts and give the whole fence a coat of paint or stain. Not only does it instantly smarten up your outdoor space, but it can also add up to £4,000 to your home's value.

You don’t need to be an expert gardener or spend a fortune to make your garden shine. A little time and elbow grease go a long way, and could help your home sell faster and for more. Whether you're getting ready to move or just want to enjoy your space more, now’s the perfect time to get stuck in.
